Nowadays, there are still many, who profess to be Christians, who practice circumcision. Ironically, many of them do not follow what was written in the First Covenant that is to circumcise children in their 8th day (Genesis 17:12). For example in the Philippines, many Christians circumcise their sons at the age of 6 to 10. They follow the practice of the Catholic organization which was engraved in their so called 'tradition' and put a lot of suffering on their children. How could it be? Is not the scripture black and white about circumcision?
But because we are free in Christ, we are also free from the LAW. Christianity means freedom. We ought not to follow Jewish rituals. How could we proclaim our freedom in Christ to the world and to the Jewish if we do the same thing that they do?
In Galatians 5: 2-4, Paul emphasized:
If you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God, then Christ will be of no benefit to you. I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses. For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.
And the same condemnation Paul did in his letter to Titus (Titus 1:10 NLT), " For there are many rebellious people who engage in useless talk and deceive others. This is especially true of those who insist on circumcision for salvation."
Remember that circumcision was Abraham's proof of the covenant God made with him and to the Israelites. It is a law for the people of Israel to follow. It is not for Christians. Christians are free from the law. We are free in Christ!
So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. --Galatians 5:1 (NLT)
